Love this email I just received from <a href="http://fightforthefuture.org"target="_blank">http://fightforthefuture.org

Now that Congress has had time to process last week’s internet blackout, a consensus has emerged: SOPA and PIPA are toxic for politicians, and going anywhere near them could cost them their re-election.

	Freedom is winning!

Together, we’ve done something amazing– never have so many people stood up to defend a free and open internet. Here’s a San Francisco Chronicle article about how it all came together: <a href="http://act.fightforthefuture.org/page/m/2e1f208d/1d031a4f/70406a79/f863f34/1813796957/VEsH/"target="_blank">The Largest Online Protest in History Started Here.

And here’s Carl Franzen at Talking Points Memo:

“Behind the scenes, Hill staffers from both sides of the aisle confirmed to TPM that the entire piracy debate had become so ‘toxic’ that virtually no lawmakers were likely to be ready to re-engage it anytime soon.”

Experienced Congress-watchers are telling us they’ve never seen anything like this.

Internet users, tech companies, and non-profits joined together to defend fundamental rights on the internet. To a lot of elites in Congress and the corporate world, the internet is just something that lazy teenagers use to spam people with pictures of photoshopped unicorns. The blackout showed that the peer-to-peer internet is about empowerment, and that when we work together we can defeat the corrupt politics of Washington D.C.

The New York Times and Talking Points Memo have both published good articles on how the web blackout was organized.

For months, four senators were the only force blocking passage of PIPA/SOPA. They even promised to filibuster the bill back when most politicians were against them. We need to make sure we support and vote for leaders like them who are willing to going to go out on a limb and oppose SOPA before it was popular to do so. It’s great that we pressured all those other shlubs into opposing web censorship, but these guys deserve the real cred and our support: <a href="http://act.fightforthefuture.org/page/m/2e1f208d/1d031a4f/70406a79/f863f33/1813796957/VEsC/"target="_blank">Click here to donate (scroll down).

What’s next? The Fight is not over, already new threats to web freedom are starting to emerge (particularly in Europe) and we’re getting ready. Stay tuned, and for more updates,

Thank you again for standing up for a free and open internet!

Cheers

Donald

Dunedin writer and publisher Brian Miller has addressed this by writing an outstanding little book, fact filled with solid practical advice [with even a quote from iCommunicate's Donald], all about Digital Cameras the Easy Way.

I’m blown away by a tiny NZ book – Digital Cameras the easy way – Packed full of useful hints and explains the gobbledygook that comes with manuals – all for $15” Jan, Page & Blackmore Booksellers – Nelson

“There’s plenty in this book to justify it’s modest cover price to anyone starting out in digital photography. and if you’re putting off buying a digital camera because it all seems too complicated this is the book for you”Jeremy Rose – Scoop Review

“Full of simple, sensible advice and numerous tips , – but without wodges of unnecessary information to wade through.” Otago Daily Times

“The little handbook – is quite wonderful. – Has the approach of a master teacher and it feels throughout that [the author] is beside the reader and sharing his journey with him – challenging yet accessible and friendly.”Prof. Graham Hill Wanaka

“Helps demystify digital photography – essential tips to improve your photographs. Never overly technical, it’s aimed at the average person who just wants better images.” NetGuide

This innovative pocket-guide will change the way people ride the Rail Trail in Central Otago. Over 10 000 people ride and enjoy the rail trail each year but too many ride each section without stopping to enjoy the side-trips. This compact illustrated guide packed with useful facts, cross-sections, easy-to-digest information and suggested side trips will enhance your experience on the trail. A book to buy before the trip and to use as you do the trail. The first section explains why Central Otago is so special, with an overview of natural history – geology, climate, plants and animals. Photos help bikers identify the common plants and animals. The human history is equally fascinating – the first travellers, the squatters, the discovery of gold and the building of the Otago Central Railway on which the trail is built. The cross-sections of each part of the trail along with maps of main towns and surrounding areas make it easy for ‘trail trippers’ to plan their movements. Includes tips for good lunch spots, fun quiz questions to enliven these breaks, locations of ‘loos.’….
iCommunicate’s Donald L. is delighted that his below image of a New Zealand Bush Falcon has been included in this book. Capable of flying at speeds over 100 km/h and catching prey larger than itself, this New Zealand falcon / kārearea (Falco novaeseelandiae) is one of New Zealand’s most spectacular birds…
